Naoshima: Dancing Pumpkins

We are in Naoshima, enjoying lots of beautiful scenery and art, including Yayoi Kusama’s iconic pumpkins:


This yellow one is about 100 yards from the beachfront “Japanese cottage” we are staying in (oh, I should have posted those photos first). It was about 6:30 am when I took these, and while an early morning beach walk was delightful, you can see from our faces we are feeling the early hour…

This red pumpkin is in the Miyanoura harbor, where our ferry to Naoshima island (“Oshima” in a place name refers to island so that is a bit redundant to say, apologies) arrives and departs.

Oops- I am posting from my phone and the photos are popping up in opposite order, so you are starting with a view of the sunset from inside the red pumpkin…
